Brisbane, QLD (Australia) – McKayla & Sam

Can you tell us a little bit about you?

We are McKayla and Sam – we love to dance, be it wild, wooly, conceptual or conventional.

What drew you to NLNL in the beginning?

We found out about NLNL separately and fell in love with the concept. We didn’t know each other prior to starting our NLNL and each of us comes from different walks of life- which really speaks to the universality of the NLNL concept.

Can you tell us a bit about your NLNL community?

Our NLNL community has been steadily growing over the past year. We now meet weekly in Brisbane’s creative hub, West End. We get men, women, professional dancers, lounge room boogiers from age 6 to 66.

What has been the most exciting thing about running NLNL?

The raddest thing about running a NLNL is getting dancers coming up to you at the end of a session, faces shining, saying it’s the best thing they’ve ever done.

Are there any stories you’d like to share that are unique to your NLNL?

Our NLNL crew have created an amazing promo video, check it out here:

We also got invited to be part of our city’s biggest cultural event, the Brisbane Festival this year, giving us the opportunity to reach out to a whole new group of NLNLers.

Have you got a favourite playlist we could share? or top 5 tracks of the year?!

Our top five tracks are Funky Town – Lipps Inc., Ain’t No Mountain High Enough – Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terell, Buffalo Stance – Neneh Cherry, Canned Heat – Jamiroquai, and Little Green Bag – George Baker, but you actually can’t go past Come On Eileen by Dexy’s Midnight Runners to get a mass sing-a-long and clap-fest going.
